Sony Xperia 5 II review

Introduction

When was the last time that a high-end pair of small phones was high - and not just because you prefer compact handsets? Well, it looks like we have a review of the Sony Xperia 5 II here.

You ask, how is it better? For one, it has a 120Hz display, while the Xperia 1 II uses a traditional 60Hz panel. While not as 4K as the Xperia 1 II, the X5II's 450 ppi screen density is quite high, so we won't cut it.

The second bit where the 5 II is better than the 1 II is the battery capacity - that is to say, it's the same - the smaller phone comes with a battery that is as big as a 4,000 mAh power pack in larger models. Is. This is probably the first time we've seen such a match between two different sized handsets of the same generation (different or more).

  • Misc: Fingerprint (side-mounted), hardware Google Assistant button, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, barometer, compass, color spectrum; NFC; stereo speakers (front-mounted), 3.5mm headphone jack.

The next thing that might qualify for the 5 II's advantage over the 1 II's is the introduction of the Google Assistant button on the right. Keep in mind, the 520 has 5 mechanical buttons, in 2020 - we can see that people like it just for that.

The remaining 5 Mark II is more or less taken from 1 Mark II. For example, the camera system consists of a single triple module. A 16mm ultra-wide, 24mm main camera, and a 70mm telephone, all produce 12MP images. Sony stumbled upon the 2F pair for the smaller model, however, we'll have to see how it affects the results of closer low light focus and portrait mode.

Sony Xperia 5 II

The Snapdragon 865 powers the Xperia 5 II (not 865+), and the phone has 8 GB of RAM. Unlike the 1 II, which comes with only 256GB of storage, the 5 II can be either 128GB or 256GB.

Some welcome improvements include the return of a 3.5mm headphone jack and the relocation of the bottom speaker to fire on the front of the phone - both features that are also common with the 1 II.

What's not shared with the larger models is the wireless charging capability - you'll need a cable to upgrade the 5 II. You can still do this on USB power delivery up to 21W even though Sony only sends an 18W charger (and makes it for that matter). Talk about ...

Sony Xperia 5 II unboxing

Our Xperia 5 II review unit arrived in a typical Sony white cardboard box with the phone's name stamped on the front in shiny letters. Inside the box, the minimal approach continues - get your phone, the 18W charger we mentioned, and a USB-C-to-C cable to go with it. that's it.

It is worth mentioning that the Xperia 1 II had a pair of Air  in the package and Sony had a history of making retail bundles in different markets, so you will finally be able to get a headset with 5.
