Apple's new iMac proves it's an M1 world, and we live in it

One of the longest-standing personal computer designs has fallen. Goodbye, I Mac. Hello, iMac The new version of the smaller iMac (formerly 21.5 inches, now 24 inches) has taken on a whole new look, becoming the M1-powered Mac in a new design from Apple's Spring. That should be sufficient enough to recommend a few buyers, especially those who have stopped updating older iMacs. The new CPU and webcam still incorporate the best elements of the new M1 MacBooks and Intel-powered 27-inch iMac.

This change is long overdue. Since 2012, almost forever in terms of computer design, and IMAC has been a large screen, with the help of which it gently leaned on its back, typed on a sharp edge, and clung to the same curved foot. It now stands for nine years in the form of the eclipsed Apple iMac. It's a testament to the design of the future that still lasts for most of the year, even when the MacBook Air, another of Apple's longest-running computers, has a new physical  Design found.

The latest iMac reminds me a lot of one of the oldest iMacs. Yes, the classic candy-colored CRT Sporting G3 model from 1999, which is still a great example of smart, user-friendly industrial design.

With seven color options, it definitely lends itself to this colorful 1999 iMac G3 series. It's a bit old-fashioned and can't come very soon. Times are still critical. Do our computers match our epidemics? Honestly, the time has come for us to have some more colorful, fun-looking computers.

Before today, if you want the current Mac in color, you have to choose the MacBook Air or Pro in gray, silver or gold. These were all very muted colors, and if your idea of making a bold personal statement was more gray than silver, these new iMacs could go a long way for you.

colorful mouse and trackpad options.
For the rest of us, Apple is more than happy to sell color-matched items - in addition to a few different keyboard configurations - colorful mouse and trackpad options.

The new keyboard is one of the real stars here. The standard iMac Mac keyboard has been updated with more rounded corners and an emoji key. You can choose the color integrated keyboard with built-in number pad, as well as the version with Touch ID, which makes logging as easy as Mac Mac.

Before you ask, there is no answer. No, Touch ID keyboards won't work with your non-M1 Mac (according to the original keyboard, but the fingerprint reader won't). Also, you can't buy these new versions separately in any color. At least not yet. I'm still jealous of not being able to get the Space Gray keyboard, which was originally only packaged with the now-defunct iMac Pro.

But even bigger changes have come to the iMac. The first 21.5-inch machine, it now fits almost the same footprint on a 24-inch display, thanks to the slimmer, more sophisticated bezels. It's not like the Apple XDR display, or even the 27-inch screen on the iMac, which offers an expensive (but worth it!) Nanotechnology layer, but Apple says the new 24-inch screen has a Reflective reflective coating. Its own

No more USB-A ports, and a repositioned, redesigned hinge. Apple

Apple is developing it as a good kitchen or classroom computer or for people whose desk is not very deep and needs small foot markings. The giant foot is now the watchman. Before that, it was a trapezoid that widened as you approached, all as part of a literally delicate balance to prevent this large, heavy-filled One desktop from collapsing. Now it's light and hopefully easier to pick up and move around.

The 4.5K 24-inch screen replaces the older Retina version of the 21.5-inch iMac. If you want the brand new Intel 21.5-inch iMac, the Intel Core i5 version with a screen of 1,920x1,080 pixels is still available in the United States for 1,099. With a newer version starting at version 1,299 and a comparable MacBook Air from comp 999, I can't imagine why anyone would want an older model.

This is an M1 world

Here is an interesting plot twist. In some ways, basically, every Mac is the same now. The differences between the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro (13-inch), Mac Mini and 24-inch iMac-powered chips are minimal, and our previous quality testing of the Air, Pro and Mini shows That. The new iPad Pro is also joining the M1 Club, further blurring the line between laptops, tablets and desktops.

How will the M1 chip replace the iMac? That's the decent thing to do, and it should end there. Considering our testing of the M1 Air, Pro and Mini, they also outperformed the recent Intel version of the same product.

The biggest thing you need to know about converting to M1 Mac is that you won't really notice it. Key software apps, such as Adobe's Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere, are (very) slowly gaining M1-local versions. Even those who are not yet in M1 native formats use Apple's x86 emulator, Rosita. When it comes to editing 4K video, I've already found the M1 to be able to perform better than Intel Mac, combined with native software such as Defense Solutions. I've had a minor sync issue with the M1 Max since last November, but it mostly works in the background anonymously, as intended.

Another major advantage of the M1 platform is better power efficiency. The MacBook Air used the M1 switchover to be completely unfounded. The new iMac uses it to replace its entire thermal system with two smaller fans. For laptops, it's easy to extend battery life. On a desktop, this is not going to be a selling point, although there may be quieter fans and lower power consumption.

The camera is ready

We used to say that the old 21.5 inch iMac was basically a MacBook Air on a stand. That hasn't changed. It's all the same CPU, with most of the same benefits as other M1 systems. But it also includes another new feature.

Looking back to 2020, as the epidemic progressed rapidly, Apple released a 27-inch iMac that replaced almost every interior component, leaving an iconic (if aging) design. At the time, I liked it more than anyone else for a reason: its 1080p webcam, which was acquired by Apple's best camera software for display control, made me simply into the human zoom world. Feeling like a Superman.

I loved it, my lighting was great, my audio was great. The most painful comparison was frankly with Apple's MacBook laptop, still adorned with the tragic 720p cameras that weren't even good at the code before.

The 2021 24-inch iMac also trades up to a 1080p (aka Full HD, aka 1,920x1,080 pixels) camera. Apple says it's actually more sophisticated hardware than the best 27-inch maker, and moreover, the M1's improved camera software improves lighting, color temperature and visibility better than the 27-inch Intel version. Can control I haven't seen this new webcam in person yet, so I can't comment, except that I'm very happy with the camera in the 2020 27-inch iMac.

The new 24-inch iMac will be available for pre-order from April 30 and should be shipped in the second half of May. It starts at 1,299 (24,249, AU 8 1,899), the more expensive base model has color options, more ports, more storage, an extra GPU core, and an Ethernet port in the power cable. With meeting

Even with the M1 chip, I think of it as a home or small home office machine, and moving to a larger 24-inch screen makes it more universally useful than the 21.5-inch old one. High-end video editing will require more RAM and a dedicated GPU, as found in the 27-inch iMac, which has yet to be converted from Intel to M1. We expect to get a new 24-inch iMac for the test soon, and will report back on benchmark results and purchase advice.
